S.v.p. Excusé mon Anglais.
Michel Thibault, was my ancestor who came to then New France in 1663 with his wife Jeanne Sohier and their first child Marie, all were born in France.
Michel baptism records are listed in the department of Vienne, in Notre Dame de Chasseigne church records (in latin) for May 27th 1629 and it lists the father as Mathurine Thibault with the mother as Jeanne Christon.
If you scan through the register from 1600 to 1675 you will find other members of the clan, like Gilles Thibault, and Francoise Barbier the parents of Mathurine, and the burial docs for Jeanne christon in 1675, there are a lot of family members in those registers, and it took me a while to find that Mathurin and Jeanne had at least three other children and that Mathurin and Jeanne were buried in the church cemetary he died before her, as well Mathurin's brother Francois had a son also named Michel who died a year after Mathurin.
The entire early history starts around 1588 with the birth of Gilles and his marriage in 1602 with Mathurin being born that same year.
As to Michel, well he died here in Quebec, in the village of St. Augustin de Desmaures in 1715 and Jeanne died in the same village but was buried in Neuville Portneuf in St. Francois de Salle church cemetary in 1699.
I am the 10th generation from Michel.
One small note, their last farm was at 474 Chemin du Roi in St. Augustin and has recently been sold.
Leo Thibault.
